Boy meets girl and the rest is history

Well maybe not history but future. The rest is future? No, that doesn’t sound right either. The rest is to be written.

Lamar (Silk) and I met through work around 2011. In my eyes (not his) it took some time to get to the dating phase but eventually we made it there. While I wanted to move fast, Silk wanted to take our time and figure out many things that would be necessary to talk through in order for us to have a successful relationship. Now, I didn’t agree back then but I’m thankful for his frame of mind.

Our journey isn’t unique but it also isn’t the same as everyone else’s. I came into the relationship as a divorced, scorned, single, educated and independent mother of 1 with a good job and lots of unrecognized baggage. Gratefully, God gave me exactly who I needed and together, we tackled love.

Throughout the years we’ve discovered many tools, classes and books that have helped us journey together on the right path and I hope these will be a blessing to you as well. To have a healthy marriage with longevity you must consistently invest into it the same way you invested in your wedding. In addition to the books listed below, marriage conferences, dates and marriage classes can keep a marriage young and fresh.

  • The Holy Bible but specifically Ephesians 5:21-33, 1 Corinthians 7:1-7
  • Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas
  • Getting the Love You Want by Harville Hendrix
  • Every Man’s Marriage by Stephen Arterburn
  • Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray
  • When a Woman Loves a Man by James Ford
  • Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
  • The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
